MPC Instrument Expansions FAQs

  • How do I use your instrument expansions?

Our instrument expansions are standard MPC 'keygroup' instruments, so simply load them from the browser directly to a 'keygroup' track in your project. You can then use Pad Perform or an attached MIDI keyboard to create melodies, chords, riffs and lead lines.

  • Do your instruments use up a lot of memory?

We highly optimise our instruments to ensure the take the smallest amount of memory without impacting sound quality. Even our most detailed, deeply sampled instruments are still highly memory efficient so it's not a problem to load up multiple instruments into any project (alongside all the other project sounds and audio tracks).

  • Can I use disk streaming with your instruments?

Yes, the samples in our instruments can be streamed just like any other sample in a project. Simply go to MENU > PROJECT and set the samples to 'Stream From Disk'. We advise you save to a fast SSD drive for best performance.

  • Can I edit these instruments?

Yes, these are build using keygroups so can be edited directly in 'TRACK EDIT' ('PROGRAM EDIT in MPC2). Many of our expansions also feature custom Q-LINK macros which have been configured to provide hands on control of various sound design and FX parameters, allowing you to shape the sound of the instrument in real time.

  • Can I preview the instruments before loading into a project?

Yes, all instruments and presets include baked-in browser previews so you can listen to the sound of the instrument before loading. Additionally you can load any instrument directly to the currently playing track to instantly hear how it sounds directly within your current sequence.

  • Do your acoustic instruments include multiple velocity layers and round robins?

Yes, our acoustic instruments a generally provided with a number of velocity layers, and the more recent MPC3 releases also combine these with multiple round robins per layer to produce incredibly realistic recreations of the original instruments.

  • What are the advantages of keygroups over plugin instruments?

The main advantage of using keygroup instruments is it gives you a broader palette of deeply sampled, character instruments to work with. A varied collection of instruments inside your MPC means you can utilise a different tone and timbre in each composition you work on.

In terms of technical advantages, you are free to load unlimited keygroups into your project (memory allowing, but even this can be bypassed by using disk streaming). Our acoustic keygroup instruments are also significantly more memory efficient than most plugin instruments, and use much lower CPU.

Keygroups also have the advantage of allowing more in-depth editing via the extensive advanced keygroup editing screens (e.g. mod matrix, envelopes, LFO and filters etc), and of course there's no software activation hassles!
