Sonkal is the ground breaking MPC synth bass expansion from Pad Pimps that combines synthesis and multisampling to produce an unbelievable 220 sub-heavy bass instruments, making this the most comprehensive bass expansion ever created for the MPC!
In a first for an MPC expansion, we’ve made extensive use of the MPC’s own subtractive synthesis capabilities with patches built from layered single-cycle oscillators warped, sculpted and modulated through the MPCs filters, envelopes, LFO and FX, creating gut wrenching, evolving bass sounds.
These are combined with an enviable collection of multisampled analog & digital synth patches, made from over 1800 samples mapped to MPC keygroup programs for a total of over 220 complete bass instruments suitable for all modern music styles.
From the outset, Sonkal was built from the ground-up with standalone MPCs in mind. We worked hard to ensure that each program used the smallest memory and CPU footprint possible, with subtractive synth programs coming in at only a few kilobytes each and multisampled programs, on average, a mere 3MB each. Unlike other expansions out there, Sonkal is not going to drain your MPC resources!

As Sonkal is built with MPC keygroup programs you’ll have full access to all the built-in MPC features you’d expect such as 'pad perform' and the arpeggiator, while seamless sample looping ensures you can play each bass note for as long as you need. And if you prefer to build and tweak your own sounds you can also easily create your custom patches using the provided oscillators and starter 'synth' template.
Sonkal is suitable for the MPC One, MPC Key 61, MPC Live (I & II) MPC X and the Akai Force, as well as the MPC Software and MPC Beats (also perfect for the MPC Studio, MPC Touch & MPC Renaissance).

FAQs
-
Is this a plugin?
No, this is an expansion made with MPC ‘keygroup’ programs and samples. Simply load your instruments from the BROWSER to a ‘KEYGROUP’ sequencer track.
-
Does this expansion support the arpeggiator and pad perform mode?
Yes, all our instruments are built using keygroup programs so they fully support features such as pad perform snd the arpeggiator in all modern MPCs and the Akai Force.
-
Can I play the instruments with a MIDI control keyboard?
Yes, no problem. You can use a keyboard or just use the pads (or both).
-
Is this easy to install on the MPC X/Live/One/Force?
Yes, very easy, we provide a 'standalone' version of the expansion which you simply drag and drop to your MPC/Force disk. Full installation instructions are included in the expansion download.
-
Do the instruments take up much memory?
No! We spend a lot of time optimising our programs to use the smallest memory possible, including the use of sustain looping. Most programs are in the region of a few MB each so will have little impact on your MPC's memory and you'll be able to quickly load dozens of instruments into any project.
-
How much disk space does the entire expansion need?
Sonkal requires approximately 600MB of disk space – this includes all program previews, samples and program files.
-
Can I create custom patches?
Yes, absolutely! As Sonkal uses standard keygroup programs it has access to all the usual MPC filters, envelopes, FX, LFO, program parameters, layers and mixing features. You can either start customising an existing patch or create your own from the ground up. We provide a blank ‘subtractive synthesis’ template to which you can assign any of the provided oscillators to build your own custom MPC synth patches.
