The Underground Crates Bundle’ contains all 50 hip hop construction kits from our 'Underground Crates' series, featuring dusty drums, melodic instruments and laid back MIDI grooves with a distantly boom bap and lofi hip hop vibe.
Each kit consists of perfectly matched drums & percussion combined with vintage-style melodic one shots including bass, jazzy keys, horns and strings, all produced to capture the gritty, warm feel of sampled vinyl cuts.
As all kits are laid out identically you can easily mix and match kits and sequences. Preview the MIDI grooves in your browser and load directly into your project for an instant starting point for your own compositions.
And if you'd rather build your own kits from the provided one shots, you'll find all 1500 drums and melodic samples are fully organised and 'tagged' using Akai's standard naming conventions so you can quickly and easily build custom drum kits from scratch.
In addition to the themes, there's also 38 sampled keygroup instruments all recorded with a dusty, vintage flavour with multi-velocity acoustic piano, Rhodes and Wurlitzer, thumping sub basses, acoustic double bass, custom electric pianos, and a mix of acoustic and analog synth leads & basses.
The Underground Crates Bundle is fully compatible with all current generation standalone MPCs (e.g. MPC One/One+, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC X, MPC Key) , Akai Force, MPC Software and MPC Beats . MPC 2.11 or greater required, and also compatible with MPC 3 beta. Legacy versions of all kits, instruments & MIDI themes are also provided for the MPC1000/2500/500/5000 and JJOS.

Does this expansion contain ready-made construction kits?
Yes, there's 50 complete construction kits, each containing 16 perfectly matched drums, percussion and melodic one shots. We've also included 50 'theme' sequences built from the kits to act as a starting point for your own creations. All kits are laid out identically so you can experiment with different kits in each sequence.

How easy is it to build my own custom kits?
All the sounds in the expansion ate organised and 'tagged' by instrument type so you can easily preview and load sounds to build your own custom kits. We also include 'multi' programs which will load a specific type of sound across your pads for bulk previewing instruments (e.g. all snares, all kicks etc).

Is this easy to install on the MPC X/Live/One/Force?
Yes, very easy, we provide a 'standalone' version of the expansion which you simply drag and drop to your MPC/Force disk. Full installation instructions are included in the expansion download.

Are there any loops in the kits?
No, the kits are built with one shot samples. All melodies, riffs and hooks in the themes are sequenced from these one shots, with all melodic lines created using '16 levels'. You can also use the sampled keygroup instruments to add chords and melodic lines (these are fully compatible with 'pad perform' and the arpeggiator).

Does this work in MPC Beats & the MPC Software?
Yes! We've provided an XPN installer, just drag this into MPC Beats or MPC Software to import into the expansion browser.

Absolutely - all kits, instruments and MIDI patterns are 100% compatible with the Akai Force.
