How do I update an expansion to the new version?

Share:

When an updated edition of an expansion is available, the updating proceedure is effectively identical to the original installation proceedure, as detailed here.

For MPC Software expansions, just drag over the new XPN file and the MPC will recognise it as an update, inviting you 'import' the new version. Once imported, your expansion is automatically updated to the newer version.

For standalone expansions (including MPC Sample expansions) you simply need to physically replace the existing folder for that expansion with the new updated one. The best way to do this is to just first delete the existing folder from your MPC disk and then copy the updated expansion folder over (using the same proceedure you used when first installing the expansion). By deleting first there's no possiblity of your computer 'merging' the two different expansion versions together.

Here's the step by step process, using the example of updating 'MPC Horns' on a standalone MPC:

  1. Download the updated 'MPC Horns' zip archive from your file bank
  2. Unzip the archive to your computer - the updated expansion will be the 'MPC Horns' folder found inside the 'Standalone MPC-Force Installer' folder.
  3. Connect your computer to your MPC disk (e.g. via controller mode)
  4. Go inside the 'Expansions' folder on your MPC disk and locate the existing 'MPC Horns' folder
  5. Delete the 'MPC Horns' folder from the disk.
  6. Copy the new 'MPC Horns' folder from your computer inside the 'Expansions' folder on your MPC disk.
  7. Eject the MPC disk from your computer and return your MPC to 'standalone mode'.
  8. Go to BROWSER > Expansions and enjoy the updated version!
