How to Install the MPC Bible to Any Device

Share:

MPC-Samples.com sells a number of ebook based tutorials for many different MPC models, including the ‘MPC Bible’ and the ‘Beat Making on the MPC’ series, which are suitable for reading in any computer, smartphone, tablet or ereader.

In this article we look at how you can get up and running with the books immediately after purchase, no matter what device you are using. Please note, if you are looking for help installing and using the tutorial files that came with your course, check out Installing the MPC Bible 3 Project Files Expansion', and for legacy courses, ‘How To Use MPC Ebook Tutorial Files’.

The instructions for extracting the zip file and opening your book depend the device you are using – please refer to the instructions for your device below:

Computers & Laptops

Open your browser on a computer or laptop and go to your account at MPC-Samples.

MPC Samples File Bank

Click on the download link for your ebook to download the book zip file to your computer’s default download location. Double click the downloaded zip file and ‘extract’ the contents using your computer’s default zip application.

After extracting the ebook folder to a location on your computer, you’ll see something like this:

Ebook Folders

The above screen shot shows all the files that come with the MPC Bible. All our ebook downloads, at minimum, contain two resources; a PDF file (this is the ebook itself) and a ‘Tutorial Files’ folder. Additionally, our newer ebooks such as the MPC Bible also contain an additional version of the book optimised for reading in devices such as ebook readers, smartphones and tablets.

To immediately open and begin reading your ebook on your computer, simply double click the PDF file to open it in your computer’s PDF reader.

Once the PDF is opened you can use it just like any other PDF, e.g. magnify text, search, bookmark, print pages, and so on.

iOS Devices (iPad & iPhone)

The best format for iPads and iPhones is usually EPUB as it is specifically optimised for use in the 'Books' app, but you can also use the PDF version of the book in all iOS devices. There’s two primary ways to transfer your ebook to an iOS device; you can either transfer/sync it from your computer, or you can download the book directly to your phone/tablet.

Downloading your Ebook Directly to an iOS Device

This method ideally requires iOS 13 or newer. In your iPad/iPhone, open Safari and head over to your MPC-Samples File Bank.

File Bank

Click on the book ‘Download’ link and you’ll see the following:

iOS Download

Tap on ‘Download’ and the zip file will download to your iOS device. Tap on the ‘download icon’ at the top of Safari to view the download progress:

Download Detail

Upon completion, tap on the file name in the downloads detail pop up and you’ll be taken to the download location, which by default is your iCloud folder (you can change this in ‘Settings > Safari’).

iOS Download Folder

Tap the zip file to extract the contents of the zip file to your iPad/iPhone and enter the extracted folder:

iOS Extracted Folder

The EPUB version is found inside the ‘Ebook Reader Versions’ > ‘iOS and Android – EPUB’ sub folder, but if your book doesn’t have this option, simply select the PDF format.

EPUB extracted

Tap on the book file; the book will now be imported into the Books app and will sync across all your Apple devices. If when opening the book you see an error about ‘missing resources’ this indicates that the Books app has not yet completed syncing. We find closing the book, waiting a few seconds and reopening permanently resolves this.

You can also use Google Chrome to download the zip file. After clicking the download link at MPC-Samples, tap on ‘Download’ at the bottom of your screen

Chrome Download

Once downloaded, tap on ‘Open In…’ and select ‘Open in downloads’:

Open In...

From this point the procedure is the same as the Safari method. If you have problems downloading or unzipping your book, we recommend using the computer syncing method below.

Syncing to IOS Devices From Your Computer

If you have already downloaded the book to a Mac computer you can simply drag the book into the Mac’s Books app and it will sync automatically to all your iOS devices (iCloud syncing must be enabled in ‘System Preferences > iCloud’).

Alternatively (for Mac or PC) you can use a cloud service such as Dropbox (or Google Drive, Box, etc). The instructions will vary on the version of the app you are using, but generally speaking copy the book into the Dropbox folder on your computer and then on your device open the Dropbox app, tap on the synced ebook and select ‘Share >  Send copy of file > More... > Books’.

Dropbox

Another option is to email the book to yourself. Go to your mail client on your computer, attach the book file to an email and send the email to your own email address. Now open the Mail app on your iOS device and open the email you just sent yourself. Double tap the attachment and at this point you will be given the option to ‘Copy to Books’.

Android Devices

We recommended using the EPUB version in Android devices as this works well in dedicated ereader apps (e.g. Google Play Books, Moon Reader etc). However if you prefer, you can also use the PDF version.

Just like iOS, you can either transfer/sync the book from your computer, or you can download the book directly to your phone/tablet.

Download Your Book Direct To an Android Device

The following has been tested in ‘vanilla’ Android 11 and 10, and may vary depending on the modified version of Android used by your phone manufacturer. If you have problems, try the computer syncing method instead.

In your Android device, open Google Chrome and head over to your MPC-Samples File Bank.

File Bank

Click on the book download link and the zip file will download to your device. Do not try opening the zip file from the browser.

Instead, go to the Files app, and near the bottom of the screen select ‘Internal Storage’.

Files

From the resulting folder list, tap on ‘Download’ and you should see your book zip file inside this folder:

Internal Storage

Tap on the book zip file and select ‘Extract’. This will create a folder named after the zip file; enter this folder:

Extracted

The EPUB file is inside the ‘Ebook Reader Versions’ folder. After tapping on the book you will be asked where you wish to open it:

Open with

If you select ‘Google Play Books’ (Upload to…) then the book will be uploaded to the Google Play Books account associated with the Google account of your Android device. Once uploaded it will sync across all your Android devices. You can then read the book using the free Google Play Books app.

Transfer Your Book From Computer to Android Device

If your book has already been downloaded to your computer you can quickly sync it to all your Andoid devices by uploading it to the Google Books web site in your browser (remember to log into your Google account first). Now just click on the ‘Upload Files’ button:

Google Play Upload

Locate the book file (remember EPUB is best for Android, but PDF is also compatible) and upload the book to your Google Books account; the next time your phone tablet is connected to WIFI, Google will sync the book over to your phone.

You can also email the EPUB as an attachment to yourself – send the email from your computer and then open the attachment on your phone’s mail client – you should now get the option to ‘upload to play google books’.

Kindle Readers

Kindles now officially support EPUB files, so if your book download contains an EPUB version you can transfer this to your Kindle using Send to Kindle

Send to Kindle allows you to send ebooks to your Kindle account from a computer or mobile device using email or ‘Send to Kindle’ apps. First, follow the general zip file extraction instructions for your device listed previously in this article. Our older books may not have this EPUB version, so you can use the PDF version instead.

On a Mac or PC, install ‘Send to Kindle’. Launch the app, log into your Amazon account and you can now drag the EPUB book into the app.  A few minutes later it will sync to your Kindle devices.

Send to Kindle Desktop

On a smartphone (iOS or Android), install the Kindle app, navigate to the EPUB version of the book on your device using any of the methods already discussed in this article (e.g. via the dropbox app or from an email attachment) and ‘Share’ directly to the Kindle app on your device. The Kindle app will now send the EPUB book to the 'Send to Kindle' service - it may take a few minutes to send the book over, and then another few minutes for the book to appear in your Kindle library.

You can also use email. First, log into your Amazon account and go to ‘Manage Your Content and Devices’ and choose the ‘Settings’ tab. Scroll down to ‘Send-to-Kindle E-Mail Settings’ and there you’ll see the email address you need to send your book to; it will be something like [email protected].

Now just attach the EPUB book to an email and send it to that email address (no subject or text content needed). A few minutes later the book should be added to your Kindle cloud and will should sync automatically to your Kindle devices.

Using the Tutorial Files

All our books come with a folder of ‘Tutorial Files’ so you can recreate every single example covered in the book. These tutorial files must be transferred to your MPC, and we’ve created a separate guide for this here.
