'Hip Hop Drum Patterns' features over 330 hip hop grooves in MPC MIDI pattern format which can be paired with any MPC drum kit to provide a library of fully editable hip hop drum performances for any modern MPC and the Akai Force
The collection consists of 100 primary grooves each with up to 4 additional variations covering a mix of drum styles from straight, swung, straight/swung mix, laidback, ahead & behind-the-beat and 'drunken' styles, all originally created from real drum performances and packed with natural human feel and groove - the perfect building blocks for any beat!
All drum patterns are provided in a number of mappings that mean they can be paired with most MPC drum kits including:
- ‘Dirty Drummer’ Series – our range of multisampled ‘cycle’ kits, perfect for creating fat, boom bap and lofi style beats
- ‘MPC Drummer’ Series – our range of multisampled acoustic kits, perfect for making realistic soul, funk and vintage-style breaks..
- DrumSynth Plugin – these work perfectly with the Drumsynth internal synth plugin, great for styles such as trap, electro, old school and grime.
- Akai Factory Kits - 'Universal mappings' work really well with most of the factory kits pre-installed inside your MPC/Force as well as Akai's commercial expansions and the kits inside our own Underground Crates & 808 Evolution expansions.
Universal mappings can also be matched with any custom or third party kit - full set up instructions are found in the included User Guide.
Each pattern comes with its own 'browser preview' baked-in so you can listen to each groove in the MPC browser before loading into your project. Once loaded, match your groove with any drum kit you wish and edit your groove using standard MPC sequencing techniques. And with the additional variations you can quickly add plenty of subtle variety to keep things fresh throughout your entire song.

FAQs
-
What are MIDI Drum patterns?
Midi drum patterns are short MIDI performances which can be loaded directly to a track in an MPC/Akai force as standard MIDI events – match them with a drum kit to instantly add grooves with a 'real drummer' human feel. The tempo and contents of the resulting MIDI track are fully editable to your exact needs using standard MPC sequencing tools (e.g. grid edit, list edit etc) and you are free to assign different drum kits to the pattern until you find the exact combination you need.
-
Will these MIDI patterns work with my MPC Kits?
We've provided the patterns with a number of different MIDI mappings that mean they are compatible with all the kits on our site, the internal Drumsynth plugin and most of Akai's factory kits - that's 1000s of kits that will work with the patterns 'out of the box'. Any other kit can be easily and quickly tweaked to work with the provided 'universal' mappings, and full instructions in the User Guide (along with a kit template to use when building your own kit from scratch.
-
Do these patterns work with the pre-installed ‘factory’ kits inside my MPC?
Yes, in our testing the universal mappings work 'out of the box' with the majority of Akai’s factory kits as these kits all use the same drum layout (kick, snare, closed hat, open hat on pads A01 to A04 respectively).
-
Do MIDI patterns work with the Force?
Yes, simply load the MIDI pattern to a clip on a ‘drum’ track or to a plugin track using a Drumsynth Multi preset.
-
What style are these patterns for?
These patterns work well with any hip hop related style, it really depends on the type of kit that you match with the pattern, and the tempo you decide on. For example, if you wanted to make a lofi beat, you could drop a pattern into your project, set to a slow tempo (e.g. 75 BPM) and match it with a grimy, lofi drum kit. But that exact same pattern set to a faster tempo could be matched with a completely different kit and used as the building block for a trap track.
-
What are the 'variations' for?
Each main groove comes with a number of variations and fills. These provide subtle (and not-so-subtle) alternative versions of that main groove. For example a variation might feature a unique fill, extra ghost notes, 16th hats instead of 8th, additional ride cymbal pattern, and so on. When combined together, these variations and fills create a more interesting and varied drum performance for your entire song.
-
Will these patterns work in the MPC Software & MPC Beats?
Yes, 100%. Just drag and drop from the expansion browser directly to your sequence!
-
Do these work with old legacy MPCs (e.g. MPC1000, MPC2000XL, MPC4000...)?
No, MPC pattern format only works with modern standalone MPCs, the MPC Software/MPC Beats and the Akai Force.
