MPC-Samples is proud to present our most popular expansion request in recent years, MPC Electric Guitar, featuring an immaculately multisampled Fender 1952 Custom Shop Relic Telecaster guitar.

MPC Electric Guitar takes full advantage of MPC3s powerful new features to create deeply sampled, highly expressive instruments that allow you to producev truly realistic and authentic sounding electric guitar performances inside your MPC, packed with all the natural nuances and unique character found in the original guitar.

The Instruments

The expansion is built around two primary instruments each featuring extensive and highly flexible 'keyboard splits' that provide multiple articulations and sound FX within a single track.

The main instrument is built using a full natural note range of of 'sustain' notes which can be used to create rich and full sounding chords, strums, arpeggios, melodies and lead lines. Each note features multiple velocity layers with up to 4 round robins per layer to ensure a different timbre each time the note is played.

The lower octaves on the same instrument feature 'palm muted' notes which can be used to add depth, variety and dynamic texture to any guitar performance.

Spare notes on the key range are dedicated to natural guitar noises such as string squeaks, knocks, slaps and bumps alongside controllable 'note off' string release noises, which when combined together add extra dimensions of realism to every performance.

For a completely different vibe, the dedicated 'harmonics' instrument contains four octaves of 'pinch harmonics' combined with 2.5 octave set of mellow 'open string harmonics'. Use this instrument to create ethereal, haunting arpeggiated chord sequences and melodies.

In addition to the two core instruments we've carefully crafted an inspiring collection of 44 genre-spanning presets which cover a broad range of different guitar tones and vibes, all quick loading and ready-to-play.

Instruments are all fully compatible with 'pad perform' mode and can also be played with any attached keyboard controller, with full support for pitch bending and mod wheel controlled vibrato.

And for instant inspiration, drop in a pattern from the included melodic MIDI library of authentic sounding guitar riffs, strummed chords and arppegiated sequences, all built from real guitar performances and packed with live nuance and feel.

Craft Your Own tone

You can also easily sculpt your own unique guitar tones using the many  pre-configured Q-LINK macros found in each instrument. Adjust amp tone, distortion, ambience, lofi FX, delay and modulation and tailor the mechanics of the guitar sound including string releases, dynamic range, attack transients, bite, and string dampening.

And if you're looking to develop something truly unique we've added a customisable synth layer which can be filtered and blended in with the main guitar sound to create more complex, cinematic textures. Choose from five different synth oscillators and 24 different filters, all controllable from dedicated Q-LINK dials.

Optimised For Standalone

As with all our MPC instrument expansions, memory and CPU usage is highly optimised to ensure you have absolutely no problems dropping these instruments into any MPC project. Not only do you get a significantly more realistic sounding electric guitar compared to the presets in a plugin like Fabric XL, these instruments use less memory, less CPU, and don't eat into any of your allotted plugin slots.

MPC3 & MPC2 Support

MPC Electric Guitar takes full advantage of the power of MPC3 and is fully compatible with standalone MPC 3.5+ and MPC Software 3.5+, as well as Force 3.5+.

MPC2 users are also fully supported with additional versions of all instruments optimised for MPC2.15+ (and Force 3.3), all containing the exact same number of articulations, velocity layers, presets and MIDI patterns but with just a single sample per velocity layer and reduced Q-LINK control.

All instruments and patterns come with a baked-in browser previews and are fully organised and ‘tagged’ for rapid browser searching. For more details about the expansion and how to use the provided instruments and patterns, check out the extensive User Guide.

FAQs

  • Does this work with MPC 3 firmware?

Yes, all instruments are provided in both MPC2 and MPC3 formats. The MPC2 formats are for MPCs running MPC 2.x (including MPC Software & Akai Force 3.3), while the MPC3 versions are tailored specifically for the new features found in MPC3 and include the ability to combine velocity layers with multiple round robins per layer.

  • What are 'string mechanics'?

These are editable parameters that help shape the sound and response of the instrument. For example 'Bite' controls the amount of attack transient added to the hardest hit notes to give the instrument a more aggressive feel. Dynamic range controls the difference in volume between the soft and hard hits while 'string dampening' mimics the way the notes become more muted when dampening the strings at the neck of the guitar.

  • How do I control string release noises?

String release noises are implemented in two ways. Firstly there are automatic 'note off' string release noises which are triggered when you release a pad or key. In MPC3 you can control the volume and probability of these noises using a dedicated Q-LINK. For example, set probability to 30% and the string noises are only triggered 30% of the time. You can also manually trigger string release noises and other percussive sounds such as body taps and knocks; these sounds are assigned to specific notes/pads and simply be played when required.

  • Whar's the best way to play the instruments?

All instruments are standard MPC keygroups so fully support pad perform and the arpreggiator, and you can also play via an attached MIDI keyboard (or with the built in keyboard on MPC Key models) which also allows for string bends and vibrato control. You can also use the Q-LINKS for additional control over aspects such as string damping, string release noises, sound design aspects and FX tweaking, as well as Q-LINK control of string bends and vibrato via MPC3's built in MIDI macros. More details are available in the User Guide.

  • How do I use the MPC patterns?

The included patterns each contain a four bar bass riff in MIDI pattern format - just load to a track containing an instance of the upright bass instrument and you'll instantly have a usable bass line that automatically adapts to the tempo of your sequence. Use the transpose feature in GRID EDIT to easily change the pitch to suit whatever key you want to work in; all patterns are labeled with their native pitch and the tempo they were originally recorded at.

  • Do I need any additional FX plugins for this expansion?

No, only native stock plugins are required - just make sure your MPC is running the recommended minimum MPC version.

  • Is this easy to install in standalone MPCs and the Force?

Yes, we provide two separate installers, one for 'standalone' use and one for installation directly into the MPC Software/MPC Beats. The standalone version is simply copied directly to the 'Expansions' folder on your MPC/Force disk, the MPC Software XPN file is just dragged directly into the software. Full instructions for both standalone and MPC Software installation are provided in the included User Guide.

  • Does this work in MPC 2?

Yes absolutely, the MPC2/Force versions still feature all velocity layers, string release noises, sound presets & MIDI grooves.
