MPC DX7 contains a diverse collection of MPC instruments built from the mighty 80s digital FM synth, the Yamaha DX7.

More than a simple sampled instrument collection, this expansion combines multisampled DX7 FM synthesis tones with a mix of analog oscillators , sample layers and MPC FX , to produce an exceptional range of expressive MPC instruments possessing a truly unique blend of modern and retro timbres suitable for any style of electronic music.

Inside there’s 121 keygroup instruments featuring the distinctive punchy bass, deep mids and glassy highs of the DX7 recorded with up to 4 dynamic layers per instrument. Each instrument also features a full set of pre-mapped MPC Q-LINK macros so you can easily adjust and further shape the sound, with separate controllable sub, noise and harmonic layers and adjustable lofi, modulation and ambience FX controls.

Need more lower end? Just twist the ‘sub’ QLINK. Need more grit? Turn the ‘lofi’ QLINK or add one of the 7 different noise layers (including white and pink noise, tape hiss, three different types of vinyl crackle and static). For a full breakdown of the pre-mapped Q-LINKs, check out the MPC DX7 User Guide.

As with all our expansions, all instruments are configured for minimal memory usage and feature colour coded pads, sample/instrument keyword ‘tagging’ and baked-in audio previews - just preview the instruments in the browser, load into your project and play with the pads or an attached keyboard (‘pad perform’ and the arpeggiator fully supported).

FAQs

  • Does this expansion support the arpeggiator and pad perform mode?

Yes, all our instruments are built using keygroup programs so they fully support features such as pad perform snd the arpeggiator in all modern MPCs and the Akai Force.

  • Can I play the instruments with a MIDI control keyboard?

Yes, no problem. You can use a keyboard or just use the pads (or both).

  • Is this easy to install on the MPC X/Live/One/Force?

Yes, very easy, we provide a 'standalone' version of the expansion which you simply drag and drop to your MPC/Force disk. Full installation instructions are included in the expansion download.

  • Do the instruments take up much memory?

No! We spend a lot of time optimising our programs to use the smallest memory possible, including the use of sustain looping. Most programs are in the region of a few MB each so will have little impact on your MPC's memory and you'll be able to quickly load dozens of instruments into any project.

  • How do I preview the different instruments before loading?

Go to the browser and make sure 'AUDITION > AUTO' is set. Now when you tap on an instrument in the browser the MPC will play a short audio demo for that instrument.

  • How are the instruments organised in the browser?

We 'tag' all instruments and samples using Akai's recommended tagging system. In standalone browsers you can use the 'Search' option to view all instruments that match a specific tag or keyword (e.g. 'keys, 'lead', bass' etc). In the MPC Software instruments are automatically grouped/categorised by their tag. You can find out more about using the instruments in the included User Guide.

  • Are these instruments synthesised or acoustic?

All the instruments in this collection are synthesised, using multisamples recorded from our collection of synths combined with subtractive synthesis techniques (utilising the MPC's own filters, LFO, envelopes and FX). If you are specifically looking for a collection of multisampled acoustic instruments, check out the MPC Instrument Collection.

  • Is there a limit to how many instruments I can load into an MPC/Force project?

Unlike plugins, there's no '8 instance' limitation with keygroup instruments, so as long as you have available memory, you can load as many of these instruments as you need. The average instrument size in any of our multisampled synth instrument collections is in the region of only 15MB, which means you can literally load dozens of instruments into memory (even in one of the original 2B RAM models of MPC/Force).
