Transferring Samplepacks to Legacy MPCs
This article shows the step-by-step process for transferring our MPC samplepacks into older ‘legacy’ MPCs such as the MPC1000, MPC2500 and MPC2000XL.Please note: Before purchasing any samplepack on MPC-Samples.com, please read the ‘Technical Specifications’ section to ensure that it is compatible with your MPC – if in doubt, please contact us for clarification.
Downloading & Extracting Your Samplepack
After purchasing you can download the book from your File Bank. This will be a ‘zip archive’ so you will first need to extract the files using your computer’s default zip application – if you don’t have one, try the free, open source 7zip.
After extracting the files to a location on your computer, you’ll see something like this:

Most of our expansions are ‘multi-format’ and contain versions for different MPC models – the files you’ll need for transferring to a legacy MPC will typically be in a folder called ‘Legacy MPC’ – inside this folder you will normally find sub folders for different MPC models:

Locate the folder that pertains to your MPC model – this is the folder that we’ll transfer to your legacy MPC. If there are no sub folders then you just need to transfer the entire ‘Legacy MPC’ folder.
Transferring the Samplepack

First make sure that your normal MPC disk is connected to your MPC – this will either be a CF Card or an internal hard drive. Turn on your MPC.
Now connect your MPC to your computer using a USB cable and go to SAVE (or DISK on the MPC5000), and hit ‘USB’. At this point your computer should recognise your MPC as a removable drive. You can then drag and drop your files to your MPC as if it were an external hard drive.
The easiest way to transfer samplepacks to an MPC4000 is to connect a FAT32 formatted USB disk to your computer - you can now simply copy the samplepack folder to this disk. Once copied, eject the disk and connect it to the front USB port on the MPC4000.
MPC2000XL
The MPC2000XL cannot be connected to a computer, so you must instead connect the MPC disk itself. MPCs tend to have one of three types of drives; floppy, zip or CF card, so you’ll need to have a matching USB version that you can attach to your computer.
For example, if your MPC2000XL has an internal zip drive, you’ll need a USB zip drive attached to your computer. Take the zip disk out of your MPC and put it in your computer’s USB zip drive. Now transfer the samplepack to your zip disk and once copied, eject the disk and put it back in your MPC.
The process is the same for CF card and floppies.
Note that the MPC2000 cannot read folders, so when you transfer your files to disk, you will need to only copy the contents of the folders to your MPC2000 disk. Apart from this, the transfer process is identical to the MPC2000XL.
As with the MPC2000, these MPC's cannot read folders, so before you transfer make sure you take all your samples out of the folders they are organised into. To transfer files you will probably need a copy of MPCEditor, as this includes a disk formatter for these MPCs. MPCEditor is now free. Due to size limitations of floppies, you will probably need to transfer your sounds in small 1.4MB batches!
