How To Transfer Your Files To Your MPC

Downloading Your Files

Once you have purchased your digital products from MPC-Samples.com, you will be directed to your 'File Bank' where you will see a list of all the products you have ever purchased under your customer account. Just click on 'Download File' and your product will download you the chosen location on your computer (you will also receive an email with copies of your download links).

Extracting From The Zip Archive

All digital downloads on this site are sent to you as zip files (this reduces the file size of the download), so the first thing you'll need to do is extract them from this archive. Windows computers come with their own built in extraction software, although many people use software such as Winzip, or WinRar. Mac users can use Stuffit Expander.

The following instructions are for using Winzip on a PC, but the process is similar on all systems. Please select the type of product you have purchased:

Samplepack Purchases

First, locate the downloaded zip archive on your computer (i.e. the location you selected when instigating the download) and right click on the zip file - select 'Extract to Here' - this option will simply extract all your files to the current location.

Once extracted, you should see something similar to the following:

The folder (in the example, 'West Coast Drums') contains your all your sounds, and the readme.htm file (if present) will contain some useful information about the product. Your files are now extracted! Go into the main folder and you'll see something similar to the following:

All your different instrument types are placed in separate folders - inside each folder you'll find your samples and program files (PGM) to allow for quick loading in your MPC. So the next step is to transfer these files to your MPC

Ebook Purchases

The extraction process is identical if you have bought an ebook, except once the zip archive is extracted, you will see something similar to the following:

Here we have the actual ebook, which is the 'pdf' file, and a bunch of folders which contain the files needed to recreate the tutorials in the ebook - each folder is named after the tutorial it refers to. To open up your PDF file in your computer, you will need a copy of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, but 99% of computers already have this installed, so you should just be able to double-click the pdf file and start reading straight away. As you read through the book, you'll probably want to start loading up the example files in your MPC and recreating the tutorials, so let's look at how we transfer your files to your MPC.

Transferring Files To Your MPC

The method for transferring files to your MPC vary depending on MPC model. Please select the model of MPC you use:

MPC1000, MPC2500, MPC500

Transferring to these MPCs is very simple. If you have a CF card reader in your computer, simply put a CF card in the reader and drag and drop your files to the card. Now take out the card from your computer reader and place it in your MPC - hit LOAD and select CF card as the loading source. Alternatively, if you don't have a CF card reader on your computer, simply place your CF card in your MPC, hook up your MPC via USB to your computer - go to SAVE, and hit USB. At this point your computer should recognise your MPC as a removable drive. You can then drag and drop your files to your MPC as if it were an external hard drive.

MPC2000XL/MPC4000

For these models, it depends on what type of disc drive you have in your MPC. If it is a CDROM, simply burn a standard data CDROM of your files from within your computer and your MPC should read it fine. If it's a zip drive or CF card reader installed in your MPC, you'll need a zip drive or CF card reader connected to your computer - just copy the files to a disk/card and then place that disk in your MPC drive. We suggest you use PC formatted disks.

If your XL only has a floppy, then you'll need a floppy drive in your computer - for laptops, you'll need to obtain a USB floppy drive for this (try eBay for low cost ones).

If you use an external USB or SCSI hard drive with your MPC, simply turn off your MPC, disconnect the drive, plug the drive into your computer, drag and drop the files and reconnect to your MPC.

MPC2000

Note that the MPC2000 cannot read folders, so when you transfer your files to disk, you will need to remove all folders first. Please also note that the MPC2000 struggles to read computer formatted data CDROMs. Apart from this, the transfer process is identical to the MPC2000XL.

MPC3000/60

As with the MPC2000, these MPC's cannot read folders, so before you transfer make sure you take all your samples out of the folders they are organised into. To transfer files you will probably need a copy of MPCEditor, as this includes a disk formatter for these MPCs. MPCEditor is free for 30 days trial and is fully functional during this period . Due to size limitations of floppies, you will probably need to transfer your sounds in small 1.4MB batches!
